The Volhard Rescue diet is a dehydrated base mix which is hypo-allergenic, anti-inflammatory, grain-free and gluten-free. Like Volhard’s other diets, the pet parent adds the primary ingredient - protein(raw or cooked) which can be rotated or tailored to the dog's needs. The Rescue diet was formulated to help heal dogs suffering with food intolerances, GI issues, recovering from illness or injury or needing a food low on the glycemic index. The ingredients in this diet have been carefully selected to support a variety of health needs. When combined with the appropriate protein source, Rescue can be used as a temporary diet during recovery or as a long-term, balanced option for dogs that have difficulty tolerating grains.

Rescue is a dehydrated foundation base mix that supports the liver, kidney, heart, lungs, stomach, and digestive tract. The ingredients in the Rescue diet include; a freeze dried USDA inspected organ meat (liver), a rainbow of vegetables, various supportive herbs, and other functional foods. Raw feeding has never been simpler!

Rescue was formulated under the guidance of a Board Certified Veterinary Nutritionist to outperform the nutritional levels for all breeds, sizes and activity levels for adult dogs.  This diet can be used to feed puppies including large breed puppies - please follow our puppy feeding guidelines.

This diet has the quality you can see and smell the moment you open the bag and serve this up. Watch your dog lick the bowl clean following this delicious meal! Made in the USA, our human-edible/food-grade, whole food ingredients are non-GMO and preservative-free. Build a Bowl

Every dog is special. But it’s not just their personality. Every dog has unique nutrition needs based on their breed, size, shape, activity level and many other factors. The best way to help your dog be the best version of themselves is to build a healthy, balanced bowl that’s a combination of grains, vegetables, proteins, hydrators and supplements that are specific to your pet.

When you build a bowl here at Volhard, you will start with the choice of foundation mix. For better planning, it’s helpful to think about the dog you plan to feed and their issues first. This is where you can determine the "personality" of your bowl.

Build-a-Bowl is a fun way to find out what the nutritional value is in a bowl of Volhard! Then you will be asked to add a protein for a delectable super-powered meal for your dog!

FOR PUPPIES LARGER THAN 60 LBS AT 6 MONTHS CONTACT US

RESCUE can be stored unopened in a cool dry place for up to 1 year. After opening,

RESCUE must be stored in the fridge or freezer and is good for 6 months after opening.

The Transition

Add a small amount of RESCUE and protein to the current diet you are feeding your dog now and mix with water. As the week progresses, gradually increase the amount of NDF2, protein, and water, at the same time decreasing the current diet by a corresponding amount, until you have phased out the current diet. (If you are feeding the same protein for six days, you may want to feed another protein - canned mackerel or cottage cheese - on the seventh day.) At the end of the transition period, weigh your dog. Weigh them again after four weeks. Increase or decrease the amount you feed accordingly.

Recommended Protein: 80/20 beef.

    Rescue

My vet recommended that I give my dog Forest this nutritional support after he became blind with SARDS. He seems to really enjoy it. It has helped cut down on the craving for food that comes with the condition. He has lost some of the inflammation as well. He had always suffered from some indigestion prior to this and most of that has cleared up.

This food has turned my elder PomX s life around. (Elmo) He is over 16 yrs and has been on it for approximately 10mos. He had terrible itchy skin , smelled awful, had lost at least 50% of his coat and was miserable. He now eats with gusto smells good has a full beautiful coat and his old strut back in his walk. Thank you Wendy!

    Rescue Diet

Posted by Gwen Williams on Feb 4th 2022

Rescue Diet has surely rescued my yellow lab Raegan from continuing down a bad road. She has had a history of ear infections, and had to have ear ablation surgery a few years ago to remove her badly damaged ear canal (damaged from a lifetime of infections). I found The Rescue Diet from a breeder who uses it on one of her dogs, and I decided to give it a try with my Raegan. She has lost weight since starting it (as she needed to) and her ear she has left has never looked better! She is back to being her happy self, and I know it is because of this food. My only negative is that I didn’t find it sooner!

This saved my dogs life. Vet said he would have be on prednisone as systems acted up for the rest of his life. This has eliminated that all together. Thank you volhard dog nutrition. Never change your ingredients....

My 16 yr old PomX had very bad skin and gut and coat loss problems. I tried him on a variety of frozen organic foods, none of which helped. He started refusing to eat. I ordered Rescue put him on it and he loved it. He has been on it 8 months now and is thriving. He has pep in his step and is very happy.

    Saved my pup

After many years and countless amounts of money spent at the vet, I decided to do some major research. My pitty has severe food and environmental allergies and systemic yeast issues. Constant ear infections, yeasty paws that she chewed and licked until raw and hairless, itchy red belly. Nothing was working to relieve her distress. I stumbled upon Volhard while researching. I figured after all the money I’ve already spent, couldn’t hurt to try this. All I can say is this.....THANK YOU! It took a few weeks but the rescue diet has changed her. No more smelly red feet. The hair grew back. Only occasional ear issues. Red belly is gone. This stuff is worth every penny! If your dog is suffering, this just might be what you need. Thank you Volhard!

    Allergies

Posted by Penny on Jan 17th 2022

I had my dog on apoquel for 7 years and she was beginning to have some adverse side effects of the drug. After a holistic consultation I took her off the apoquel and we began the RESCUE diet along with Lamb meat. So far my girl is doing pretty well. She likes the food and her allergies seem to be under control right now.. We will see in the spring if it is still helping the allergies or if we will have to add Cytopoint shots to help out.
